Dana Cowell just emailed the below report for his outings on Shilshole Bay on 9/13 and 9/14:
"I heard the fishing was good out of Shilshole Bay/MA 10 for coho, so I made a trip there by boat. I arrived Wednesday (9-13-2017) afternoon, got moorage in the marina, and fished for about three hours, hooking only shakers. Thursday (9-14-2017) I left the dock about 6:15am and in a few minutes started fishing with the crowd of boats that quickly grew to about fifty, right outside of the marina. At 7:20am, trolling South with the incoming tide, I hooked and landed my first keeper Coho, about five pounds! It was in 250 ft of water, and I had 57 ft of wire on the down rigger. There were a couple of other boats that netted fish, but overall I didn't see a lot of boats landing fish. At 8:55am I hooked and netted a Coho that weighed about four pounds, in 250 ft of water, and 80 ft of wire, which I kept to make my limit for the day! I was fishing across the current for that fish. My terminal tackle was the same set up that I used to catch Chinook on last month: a green hotspot flasher, 42 inches of 30# fluorocarbon leader to a 2.8 blue/green OG2 Old Goat Lure, and I had changed the hook to a Owner 3/0 Siwash. I have caught several salmon now on this Old Goat OG2 set up. The fish hooking action of this set up, has never slowed down enough, to justify switching back to any of my "tried and true" lures (and I have a lot of gear!). The Old Goat OG2 is a salmon magnet!!!" Dana: Thanks for the report (and for putting the OG2 to work)!
