For several years now, the OG1, in Green perch, has been our go to lure when fishing for 'bows and browns in eastern Washington state.
Whether Rock Lake, Lake Roosevelt, or any other of a number of lakes in the area, this lure has accounted for a number of solid, big-shouldered trout!

Had the opportunity last Friday, and Saturday morning, to explore Washington's MA13 and fish it for the first time in over 30 years. Launched the boat with my oldest son, and oldest grandson, with a goal of getting the little guy into his first fish. That goal was reached shortly after launching as he brought in his first salmon. A pink that took the blue/black-scales OG2 in the 3.9" size. Hooked another humpie and had it come off at the boat. A couple of hours later, hooked a decent hatchery Chinook. That Chinook took the green/black-scales OG2 in the 3.9" size. Headed back to the Pt. Defiance boat house and took care of the fish at the cleaning station.
Saturday morning, we launched again. A bit slower than Friday. But, we managed a hot Chinook on the 3.9" white/green/pink OG2 right around the tide change. About the same size as Friday's. Great fight. Actually came out of the water twice! But, when we got it to the boat, it had an intact adipose. So, we released it. Photos below: Received a report, and photos, from a fisherman in Yakutat who was putting the Green-UV OG2 in 3.9" size to work for the coho!
What was interesting about this report, though, was that they tried the 2.44 OG1 in green-UV. And, this lure, accounted for a number of coho as well! (This is a first!) One of our customers, Dave Y., hit Lake Wenatchee recently to focus on the sockeye. As he stated in his report: "...they were the only lures that worked for me." (He replaced the stock treble hooks, on the fluoro-pink OG1s, with a single barbless hook.)
Dave: Appreciate the report, and, the photo! Before Washington state's Puget Sound closed for Chinook in August, Dana C. took a couple of nice fish with the OG2. One weighed 13 pounds; the other 15.
Dana: Appreciate the photos and the reports! Just received the following report and photos from Eric and Jan at G'Day Charters out of Valdez, Alaska:
"24 silvers, 4 kings ALL with your lures Fabulous day today. Every fish caught on OG lures. We tried other lures, herring etc. All caught on OG2’s. Hope you like the pics. Holding them on glacier ice to get back to the harbor. " We absolutely appreciate this report and the photos! (Order your OG2s now through our online store.) A customer in Oregon, Trey H., submitted the following report and photo from his trip last week for coho:
"I was using the purple and black scale I had the line counters at 40 feet in 180 ft of water. I put some herring scent on it. When the day started out nothing else working and the old goat produced 5 fish before the other rods even had a bump. Thanks Donn" He was fishing the 3.9" OG2 in Purple/Black-scales. You can order this lure now from our online store. Just received a photo from G'Day Charters in Valdez, Alaska. One of their customers took a beast of a coho today on the 3.9" OG2 in green/pink/white. (They brought it back to Valdez, it weighed 10.7 pounds, and is in 2nd place in the Coho tournament that began on July 22.)
Many thanks to Eric and Jan for the photo and for putting our lures to work! (You can order this lure now from our online store.) We just received a report from G'Day Charters in Valdez, Alaska. They're having success with the 3.9" purple/black-scale OG2 for the feeder kings.
Many thanks to Eric and Jan for putting our lures to work and reporting the results: Appreciate both! You can order this lure from our online store. Finished applying clear coat to our new UV-pink OG2s in the 3.3" size. We'll start rigging tomorrow--after the clear coat has had a chance to cure.
Look for them in the store on Friday! |
