Lure Tests on Rock Lake...

2/28/2020

We were able to get out last Tuesday (February 25th) to test a new OG spinner and a new color of the 2.13" OG1 (fluoro-green/fluoro-orange/fluoro-white). Both of these lures proved to be very effective!

At the end of the morning, I believe the spinner caught the lions' share of the fish. But, the fluoro-green/fluoro-orange came in a close second. (The spinner uses a new blade that we're testing.)

Three fishermen on the boat. We kept eleven for the smoker: 9 'bows, 1 kokanee, and 1 brown.

Special shout out to Jed W. who captured the bulk of the video and photos and then took the time to edit them and pull this final video together! Absolutely appreciate it!

Old-Goat R&D Team: Western Washington!

2/21/2020

We're limited by time and space: As much as I'd like to be able to test our lures across the contiguous 48, I'm generally tied to waters in Eastern Washington and the Idaho Panhandle. Between 3D printer repairs, website updates, and the speed limits on Interstate 90, there are too many fisheries that I'll never touch.

So, when my brother and his son moved back to west side of Washington state, I couldn't be more thankful. Two fishermen who don't flinch at sub freezing temps, small-craft warnings, etc.

These guys have started putting the OG1s and OG2s to work up and down the I5 corridor. And the pictures, below, give you a sense of what they're up to. The photo with the fluoro-green OG1 was taken out of Kitsap Lake (near Bremerton). The photos with the fluoro-orange OG1 were taken from Offut Lake (south of Olympia.)

This Old-Goat R&D team is just getting warmed up. Barely warmed up...

Ryan W. sent us the attached photo and report from an outing on Lake Chelan with the 2.13" fluoro-orange OG1s behind RMT dodgers:

"This was Mitchell Creek area of Lake Chelan. I was running the OGs at 85 feet and 50 feet deep. Both were constantly hooking up. I only have two of the orange otherwise I would have put them on all four rods. I started withe one and it did so well I changed out a poor producing rod and at the same depth with the orange OG it went off. Trolling about 1.6 mph with the autopilot on zig zag pattern. All tipped with different flavors of corn."

Ryan: Absolutely appreciate the report and the photo! Thank you!

New OG2: 3.3" Fluoro-Green/Fluoro-Orange

2/11/2020

The fluoro-green/fluoro-orange OG2 has been one of our most effective colors for the salmon fishermen in the salt.

So, we've added a new size: the 3.3". This lure is a step-up from the 2.8" but still small enough to mimic the Pacific sand lance (which is a primary food source for the Blackmouth or winter King).

Underwater video of OG1 Trout and Kokanee lures

2/8/2020

We used a Spydro underwater camera to capture the action of our 1.8" and 2.44" OG1 lures. The trolling speed, when we captured the video, was just over 2mph.

As you'll see, the smaller 1.8" lure has a significantly faster action than the larger 2.44". Also note that we attached three kernels of died shoepeg corn to the treble hooks of the 2.44" to demonstrate negligible impact on the lure's action. (You'll want to fish the 1.8" without any attached bait.)

The video shows both lures running at full, and then half, speed.
