Salmon, trout, and other fish are highly sensitive to UV light.
So, we just finished rigging a new dual-blade spinner with UV-reflective blades (instead of the foil-reflective blades that we'd originally offered). We believe these new blades will be a game-changer! (These blades aren't painted--the plastic itself is loaded with UV reflective pigment.) To help demonstrate what this means, we took a picture of one of the new spinners under a UV light. They're available on the store now!

Ken Loewen, who runs the Reel Action Tours out of British Columbia fished our OG2 for the kings and coho this past summer.
He just emailed a collection of photos of fish taken with our lures. We're posting several of them below. Ken: Appreciate your putting our lures to work and reporting the results! Thank you! We've received reports this week that customers are unable to order through our online store (which is hosted by Weebly). More than one individual indicated that their order failed after multiple attempts.
We've contacted Weebly to ascertain what the issue is, and, when they'll have it resolved. However, from our standpoint, this is unacceptable. If it's happened to you, please let us know through the Contact page on our website. Thank you! (And, our apologies for the hassle!)
Quick, 2-minute, video with underwater footage of 3.3" OG2 from a trip last week to Sekiu. Lots of unclipped fish that we released. (On Wednesday morning, we caught 13 unclipped coho before we found a unicorn that was missing its adipose fin.)
The most effective color that day was the fluoro-white with black-scales. We were fishing with a flasher, or attractor, connected directly to the downrigger ball. The lure was fished 2 feet above and 6 feet behind the ball. All-in-all, had a great time on the water! Jeff Peterson, who founded Kodiak Combos, in Old Harbor, Alaska sent the following photos of salmon he's taken this summer with the OG2!
This video captures a morning outing on Puget Sound: Fishing the OG2 for coho salmon.
Over the years, I've subscribed to a number of outdoor, fishing, and hunting publications. Some have been great resources in terms of building knowledge of particular aspects of a sport: Whether it's Bugle Magazine for the elk hunter, Sporting Classics for all around fish and game, or the tried and true like Outdoor Life. Others have been, more-or-less, advertising journals. Light on content; but, heavy on ads.
The guys at Northwest Fishing Reports have a new publication that's worth checking out: Northwest Reel Life. Each issue contains solid data for the northwest fisherman. Articles are well written. And, I've gained new insight each time I've picked it up. Check it out! (Here's a link.) Received the below report and photos from Jim V. who was fishing the OG2s out of Valdez for the coho: Jim: Thanks for the report and photos! Appreciate both!!
Had two hours yesterday morning before I needed to pack things up and depart Sekiu. Decided to make the best of it and get a short trip in. This video captures the outing:
Was able to get up to Sekiu last week and chase the coho with the OG2. We ended up releasing a number of wild fish (two were toads), and, we also released a couple of really nice kings. But, that said, we were able to bring back a couple of clipped coho for the grill.
The most productive lure was the 5" fluoro-green/chartreuse. We trolled it solo--no flasher. And, we trolled it fast (about 60 degrees of angle in the downrigger cable). Our most productive depth was in the 30- to 35-foot range. A couple of photos below: |
